Playful rehabilitation

RM Ingénierie, specialist in software for medical and paramedical applications, is launching BioVal, a system for analysing and controlling rehabilitation measures taken to regain joint mobility. To do this, the system uses of the same technology employed in 3-D films to record movement.

First, a MotionPod — a wireless sensor — is attached to the patient’s body measures physical movements in real time. The physician or physiotherapist can therefore draw up the joint mobility curve for the ankle joints, knees, hips, wrists or shoulders and programme the desired joint amplitude for the exercises. The software checks the patient’s bodily movements and simultaneously promotes the development of mobility and equilibrium. In just seconds, BioVal registers these movements (30 measurements per second) and supplies the curve depictions in real time. The patient’s joint amplitude can then be set. An acoustic alarm indicates that the defined amplitude has been exceeded.

For patients with neurological diseases, repeated exercises enable the neurosensory circuits to be reprogrammed. The patient can follow his own movements on the screen, or with 3-D glasses, and check his or her physical condition and learn about the rehabilitation strategy.
In exercises to stabilise walking, BioVal can be used together with the B.Plate — a stabilisation plate — to which the MotionPod is secured. In this way, the system enables proprioception exercises or rehabilitation exercises on the ankle with visual support.

The optionally available B.Activ system is mounted on a T stand and enables the spine to be stretched in a playful manner and to carry out rehabilitation exercises for developing joint mobility with loads.
The Biorescue system combines a platform, equipped with 1,600 sensors and software, which enable analyses and feed-back about the physiotherapy. Bioval is a system that uses a motion sensor with which movement analyses can be performed.
